Psalm 23

The Lord is my Shepherd
            That's Relationship!
I shall not want
            That's Supply!
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures
            That's Rest!
He leadeth me beside the still waters
            That's Refreshment!
He restoreth my soul
            That's Healing!
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
            That's Guidance!
For His name sake
            That's Purpose!
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
            That's Testing!
I will fear no evil
            That's Protection!
For Thou art with me
            That's Faithfulness!
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me
            That's Discipline!
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies
            That's Hope!
Thou annointest my head with oil
            That's Consecration!
My cup runneth over
            That's Abundance!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life
            That's Blessing!
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
            That's Security!
Forever
            That's Eternity!

November 6, 2005

Today’s service features Very Rev. Fr. Hayrik Hovhannisyan, Preacher and Celebrant @ 1 p.m. Sunday School @ 1:30 p.m. with teacher Christine Ermarkaryan. The children will be learning about His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.

Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions.  It is by our actions that we know we are living in the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before the Lord, even if our hearts condemn us.  For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.  1 John 3:18-21

Celebrating 1600 Years of  the Armenian Alphabet With Lecturer Dr. Abraham Terian of St. Nersess

Dr. Abraham Terian, Academic Dean and Professor of Armenian Patristics at New York’s St. Nersess Armenian Seminary, will be speaking about the Armenian alphabet on Saturday, Dec. 10 at St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church at 1541 Oakhill Drive in Oakville. The evening lecture will begin at 8 p.m. and will be in the English language. Everyone is welcome.

The lecture is in honour of the 1600th anniversary of the Armenian alphabet, which was invented in 405 A.D. by the learned cleric Mesrob Mashdots.  Having an alphabet laid the foundations for our Armenian cultural heritage and national identity. The Bible was soon translated into Armenian and monasteries became centres of education.  The thinking of Armenia’s early great minds was preserved, thanks to the new alphabet.

Dr. Terian is the author of the newly-released book, Patriotism and Piety inArmenian Christianity: The Early Panegyrics of St. Gregory. He is also the Academic Dean at St. Nersess, and editor of the St. Nersess Theological Review.

Before coming to St. Nersess in 1997, Dr. Terian was Professor of Intertestamental and Early Christian Literatures for 20 years at Andrews University in Michigan. He was also a Visiting Professor of Armenian Studies at the University of Chicago.

He was Chairman of the Hellenistic Judaism Group of the Society of Biblical Literature (1983-1985) and President of the Society's Midwest Region (1990-1992). Recently, he became the first recipient of the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in the Humanities award with an appointment at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2006.

Patriotism and Piety is a ground-breaking study of the Armenian Church's unique vision of Christ's Gospel as an inseparable component of the history and ethnic identity of the Armenian people. Dr. Terian examines how theological and patriotic themes are invariably connected in Armenian theology.
